You're breaking out? What to do!

Have you noticed an increase of spots and pimples on your face, neck and back? Especially after starting to use certain hair products or methods of hair care? There are a few things you can do to reduce or even prevent this!

I myself have noticed an increase of spots on my face, particularly my forehead, because of the hair products I use (the moisturisers, the spritzes, the leave-in's and the oils). I find that when I wear my hair out, this is much more common. I also noticed that massaging my scalp with oils causes me to have spots close to the hairline.

But what can you do to prevent or reduce this?
  1. Don't overuse or apply too much product on your hair. Use enough product on your hair by applying them directly to your hair and section by section -  too much product may cause product to drip down your face, neck and back. This especially holds true for watery leave-in conditioners and oils.
  2.  When spritzing your hair, try to spritz away from your face and forehead as much as possible. If you can, spritz into your hand and then apply the spritz directly to your hair using your hands.
  3. Do your hair (moisturising, sealing and possibly styling), before your skin care regimen such as cleansing, toner, moisturising etc. This gives you the opportunity to wash off any product that has reached your face or forehead.
  4. When co-washing, washing out DC or shampooing in the shower, be sure to always wash your neck and back again after rinsing out the conditioner or shampoo out of your hair.
  5. Be aware of heavy products such as petroleum jelly and waxes - apply as much as you need and exactly where you need it to be. Keep in mind that these products can block pores and cause formation of spots.
  6. Keep your hair away from your face wherever possible (if you don't want a style where your hair is in your face, try to keep it away as much as possible).
  7. If you have a bang style or any style with your hair in your face or on your forehead, be sure to wash your face well when you put your style away.
  8. Wash your pillowcases! Products that are on your hair will end up on your pillowcase and can cause breakouts (as suggested by a reader!).
Happy hair journey ^o^
