The baggy method requires you to put on a shower or processing cap over your hair after you've moisturised it. This method traps heat and moisture in the cap and so gives your hair a conditioning effect. To increase this effect, it is always best to make sure that the bag has been tied well (not to the extent that it will hurt your head or hairline). You can also put a hat or scarf over your shower/processing cap to maximise the heat. You can use the baggy method on the ends of your hair as well by tying the bag over your ponytail.
I baggy my hair around three times a week for a few hours (mostly two to five hours). I don't baggy overnight, I find sleeping with a shower cap quite annoying. You will also find that your hair will be over-moisturised or even wet when doing it overnight. Some people do it overnight and it can be very beneficial for them.
A few weeks ago I took my hair out of yarn braids. I gave my hair about three weeks break from the yarn braids.
- Shower or processing cap (not pictured here). I used a plastic processing cap.
- SheaMoisture Deep Treatment Masque (you can pick any conditioner of your choice).
- Optional: hair ties (to tie up the end of the processing cap if it is too big to fully cover the head well and trap the heat). Water (in the blue spray bottle).

I placed the cap over my head. I made sure all of my twists were covered and that my head was well covered.
I then put a beanie over my cap. It trapped the heat in quite well. I wore it for about four hours. My hair felt very soft and moisturised and it was a little bit damp. This pic was taken for a challenge to grow my edges thicker, longer and fuller. I will make a separate post on that and hope to keep it updated.
I enjoy baggying because it keeps my hair moisturised for longer compared to using a leave in to moisturise my hair. My hair is tightly coiled and it dries very easily. I used the SheaMoisture Deep Treatment Masque because it leaves my hair very soft. I have not tried it as a wash out deep conditioner yet, but I find it light enough to seal my hair with.
I find baggying more moisturising than deep conditioning, so it's a regular thing in my regimen. I try not to overdo it because over-moisturised hair can easily break off. Another thing I really like about the baggy method is that you can do it on the go. You can do it while running errands, sitting in class or going out, simply because you can put a beanie, a scarf or a hat over it.
Benefits of baggying;
- Keeps hair moisturised
- Serves as a great 'pick-me-up' if you've neglected your hair
- Very simple to do
- Can be done on the go
Happy hair journey ^o^

Will be trying this when I take these twists out. I think I would skip the overnight thing to...I can't even try to sleep with a shower cap either! Thanks for the info =)
